So I've got to wonder, does anyone really pay attention to any of the shit I post? I'm thinking that I'm just spinning my wheels and pissing off friends who disagree with me. Anyone?

As I proposed in my last blog, re-instating the draft would be fair. As I said, very few exemptions. Once a student departs high school either by graduating or dropping out he or she would be inducted and sent to basic training for 8 weeks and Advanced Infantry Training for an additional 6 to 8 weeks. Everyone is trained first and foremost as a rifleman and immediately upon graduation is posted to one of the hotspots around the world that the government loves to get involved or meddle in.
During that first posting which would last 18 months, the newly minted soldier would be required to participate on patrols and engage with the enemy in hazardous areas. After serving the required time on the front lines, they would be allowed to return to the rear lines and serve in a support role. No exceptions. Senators and other politicians who love to send other people's kids off to be fodder for the war machine would (one would think) give second thoughts to engaging their own children and grandchildren into the fun and games. Yeah, I know...never going to happen but it's a nice thought. Equality for all; special treatment for none. The war drums are beating across America and Europe in light of the crazy Muslims attack in Paris. ISIS (or ISL or the Taliban or Al-Qaeda) has launched the first phase of ground attacks on civilians and naturally, there is a rallying cry to send troops into Syria and other sandpits across the middle east.
In order to keep it totally fair for all citizens rich and poor, male and female a new set of draft criteria needs to be drawn up. Everyone between the ages of 18 and 35 would be required to serve in the armed forces and will immediately be inducted into one of them after high school graduation. First up: no exemptions for anyone except the totally blind, totally deaf, and the obvious mentally impaired. Physical exemptions would be limited. Bum heart? Not a problem. Light training, healthy food and lifestyle changes and assigned desk duty at the rear. Bone spur on the heal of a foot? Get outta here...to the front lines. Missing a leg or two? No problem, they can be mounted on the turrets to man the light artillery. Sounds pretty ridiculous does it not? Actually, it's really not that crazy. I think I'll smoke a bowl and pontificate about this a little later. I've been thinking about this for some time. |
